Be careful with fire: I will prevent wildfire. I will build my fires only when and where they are appropriate. When I have finished using a fire, I will make sure it is cold out. I will leave a clean fire ring, or remove all evidence of my fire.

Be considerate in the outdoors: I will treat public and private property with respect. I will follow the principles of Leave No Trace for all outdoor activities.

The Boy Scouts of America has always been a uniformed body. Its uniforms help to create a sense of belonging. They symbolize character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Wearing a uniform gives youth and adult members a sense of identification and commitment. Here is a PDF about how to wear your uniform.

Scout Vespers

[To the tune of “O’ Christmas Tree]

“Softly falls the light of day, while our campfire fades away. Silently each Scout should ask. Have I done my daily task? Have I kept my honor bright? Can I guiltless sleep tonight? Have I done and have I dared everything to be prepared?”

Boy Scout Vespers or Scout Vespers is a traditional Scouting song. The song is usually sung at the end of the evening campfire, often as people are filing out of the fire circle. Often it will be sung by alternating singing the lyrics and humming the tune. The song is occasionally followed by a spoken benediction such as, “May the great Master of all Scouts be with us till’ we meet again”.
