The Crew from Troop 152’s thrilling days at Philmont Scout Ranch in June 2023:
Day 1: Bear Bag Challenge On the first day, the crew tackled the bear bag challenge. They learned the essential skill of hoisting their food bags high into the trees, out of reach of curious wildlife. This practice ensures their sustenance remains safe during their wilderness journey.
Day 2: Father’s Day Fun Fathers and adult leaders shared memorable moments. Whether gathered around during meals, swapping stories, or exploring the rugged terrain, bonds were strengthened. It was a heartwarming Father’s Day celebration.
Day 3: Horseback Riding at Beaubien The crew saddled up and embarked on a horseback adventure. The rhythmic clip-clop of hooves echoed through the scenic trails. Against the vast New Mexico landscape, they created lasting memories.
Mid-Trip, Day 5: Summiting Mt. Phillips The boys pushed their limits, ascending to the peak of Mt. Phillips at 11,737 feet. Sweeping vistas rewarded their efforts—a breathtaking panorama of mountains, forests, and sky. Their journey had only just begun!

How do you prepare for High Adventure? Well, the 2023 Philmont Crew along with some other fellow Scouts from Troop 152 planned and then took a 2-night trip to Wadewitz Park on a on a fall preparation hike. As fall in Wisconsin is always changing, they enjoyed, rain, sleeping in temps below freezing, and a beautifully sunny but brisk day to set out on a 5-mile hike carrying full packs. Upon returning to camp, they enjoyed a campfire and sampled some of their cooking as they worked to prepare some dehydrated back packing meals. Come early spring in 2023 until their trip in June they plan on getting in several more trips to get ready for their trip to Philmont in June of 2023.
